FOUR ATTAK PLAYERS AT THE IMPACT TRAINING CAMP

2008-01-09

Alex Surprenant, Andrew olivieri and Alpha Bah
Darko Kolic will not return

The Montreal Impact kicked off its training camp this week, and four players from its reserve team, the Trois-Rivières Attak, are among the invited players: goalkeeper Andrew Olivieri, defenders Cédric Joqueviel and Alex Surprenant, as well as midfielder Alpha Bah.

The four players are not new with the Impact, as all of them have experience with the Montreal team.

Olivieri played with the Impact from 2003 to 2005, whereas Surprenant was called by the Impact at the end of last season. Bah is a regular at the Impact training camp. As for Joqueviel, who will join the team shortly, he has trained with the team in 2007.

Quotes and statistics

Andrew Olivieri: "Last year, I was supposed to be the Impact third goalkeeper and play with the Attak, but I was injured and therefore I only played the first game of the season. This year, I am back and I am still fighting for a place in the team."

Darko Kolic will not be back in 2008

Even though the Attak was the youngest team in the league last season, the team will be younger this year in order to fully fulfill its role of reserve team and to develop young promising players.

As a result, veteran forward Darko Kolic, 36, will not return with the Attak in 2008.

Marc Dos Santos, the Attak head coach, had kind words for the second best goalscorer last year. "I have a lot of respect for Darko. He was very important for us last season. Darko is very passionate about his game and sometimes he gets carried away, but this is absolutely normal for a player with his background. For him, a practice is a game, and a game is a war. People will always remember him for what he did not only with the Attak, but also with the Impact. He almost reached 100 points in the USL. I wish him the very best and I am thankful for the opportunity that I had of working with him."

Open try-outs and training camp

The Attak will shortly announce the dates and details of its open try-outs and training camp.
