Serbian White Eagles 2 Attak 1
2007-10-21
Nicolas Lesage scored his twentieth goal Season over for the Attak
The Attak's inaugural season has come to an end, Sunday, following a 2-1 defeat to Serbian White Eagles in the semi-finals of the CSL championship.
Zoran Kokot (6 minutes) and Dragorad Milicevic (26 minutes) have rapidly put the Serbs 2-0 up.
In injury time of the first half, a penalty shot was awarded to the Torontians after a foul by Attak goalkeeper Jon Paul Piques, but Gabriel Pop could not increase his team's lead. And the Attak still had hope for the second half…
After the break, Marc Dos Santos' men had much of the play, but Nicolas Lesage was the only one to score (84 minutes), and their dream of playing another final was over when the referee blew the final whistle of the game.
But the Attak's first season in the CSL was nevertheless a successful one: a 10-4-8 WLT record in regular season, a triumph at the Open Canada Cup, and elimination in the semi-finals of the playoff against the champions of the regular season.
In addition, Nicolas Lesage scored his twentieth goal of the season in defeat, and now has a two-goal lead over Pop in the CSL top scorer race.
"It is always disappointing to lose a game, but one has to remember that our objectives of the season have well been surpassed," said Dos Santos. "I am very pleased, the players must be very proud of their accomplishments."
In the championship final, Toronto Croatia, who defeated St. Catharines 3-2, will face Serbian White Eagles.
