The Trois-Rivières Attak unbeaten streak ended at 18 when the team lost 3-2 to the North York Astros in its last game of the regular season, Sunday in Toronto.
Trois-Rivières (22 games, 38 points) concludes its first season with a 10-4-8 WLT record and finishes second in the national division, behind St. Catharines (21 games, 39 points).
The locals took the lead at the 2-minute mark when Marco Pacione scored from a penalty shot awarded after a foul by Cédric Joqueviel (1-0).
Selvin Lammie beat Adytia Davalia, the Attak goalkeeper, twenty minutes later and Marc Dos Santos' men were two goals behind (2-0).
Three minutes before the break, Jean-Philippe Étienne hit the cross bar from a long range shot, and Nicolas Lesage took the rebound to reduce the score to 2-1.
Darko Kolic scored from a penalty shot at 70 minutes, and the game was tied at 2-2.
The Attak had sufficient time to score a third goal and therefore maintain its chances to clinch the national division title, but the fifth and last goal of the game came from the foot of Brian Daniel Carbajal, who made it 3-2 in favour of North York.
"This loss is tough because it ends our chances to finish in first place of our division," said Dos Santos. "I am nevertheless satisfied of our first season. We played for over three months without losing, which is a great achievement for such a young team. Now, we have two weeks to get ready for the play-offs."
The Attak will start the play-offs on October 13 at the UQTR stadium.
