ATTAK @ SERBIAN WHITE EAGLES AND NORTH YORK ASTROS

2007-09-27

Trois-Rivières needs two wins

The Trois-Rivières Attak (9-3-8) will travel to Toronto to play its last two games of the regular season, first Friday against the Serbian White Eagles (13-4-2), and then Sunday against the North York Astros (4-12-4).

In addition of winning the Open Canada Cup, Marc Dos Santos' men also had a great season, losing only three of their first 20 games.

These defeats -all by one goal to the Serbian White Eagles- occurred early in the season (the last one was on June 17), but since then the young Mauricie team has gained experience and maturity, and may well be able to realize an historical double.

This fourth and last duel with one of the league's top team and actual leader is very important for the Attak players and coach Marc Dos Santos.

"The game against the White Eagles is very special for us because we only lost three times this season, and all against them, but we are a much better team now," explained Dos Santos. "This is very simple: if they beat us again, they are a better team than us. We have a great chance to turn an important page and show everyone what we are made of. If we beat them, the game on Sunday will be very important. If not, I will rotate some players and rest others for the play-offs."

Besides the game against the Serbs on Friday at 8pm, the Attak will also face North York on Sunday at 5pm. On July 7, the Attak defated them 2-1 in Trois-Rivières.

The Astros (20 games, 16 points) are fourth in the national division, well behind the Attak (20 games, 35 points) and the St. Catharines Wolves (21 games, 39 points).

To top St. Catharines and clinch the national division title, the Attak must return from Ontario with six points, and then wait and hope that the Wolves do not win in London on October 5.

In any case, the Attak will play its first play-offs game on home soil on October 13.
