Elkana Mayard scored his third goal of the season Fifteenth game without losing
Elkana Mayard scored the only goal of the game at the 40-minute mark and the Trois-Rivières Attak won 1-0 against the Portuguese Supra, Friday in Toronto, and has played 15 straight games without losing.
The game was played under heavy rain, which was therefore very difficult for both teams, but the Attak managed to get a positive result and is now five points behind St. Catharines, with two games in hand.
"The opponent was stronger compared to the game on June 3 in Trois-Rivières, but we played collectively again and won the game," said Mayard.
Mayard scored his third goal of the season following a free kick hit at the second post by Boubacar Coulibaly. The tall defender jumped and headed the ball behind the Supra goalkeeper (1-0).
Earlier in the first half, Jon Paul Piques made a big save to preserve the 0-0 score.
The Attak controlled the second half, and Darko Kolic missed two opportunities to increase the Attak lead, which has no consequence since Piques earns his third straight shut-outs in league actions and the Attak won its eighth games of the season.
"It is always difficult to travel on match day, but the players responded very well," said Marc Dos Santos. "They were very calm on the field, they came here to win. It is a very good result."
The Attak will play its fourth game of the season against the Canadian Lions, Sunday, at 4pm at Birchmount Stadium. Marc Dos Santos' men won the three previous encounters and have therefore an opportunity to get all six points available out of their trip to Toronto.
