ATTAK @ PORTUGUESE SUPRA AND CANADIAN LIONS
2007-09-13
An opportunity to close in on first place
After four straight home games, the Trois-Rivières Attak (7-3-7) will play its next two games in Toronto, first against the Portuguese Supra (4-10-3), Friday at 7:15pm, and then against the Canadian Lions (3-7-7), Sunday at 4pm.
These games against the Supra and the Lions, respectively in fifth and fourth positions in the international division, are crucial for the Attak, who are eight points behind St. Catharines at the top of the national division, but with three games in hand.
"It is very important to return from Toronto with two victories if we wish to maintain our chances to finish on top of our division, which would be an advantage in the play-off," said François Boivin.
With 10 defeats in 17 games, one of which against Marc Dos Santos' men, 4-2 on June 3 in Trois-Rivières, the Supra has a difficult season. Darko Kolic (two), Guillaume Barrette and Nicolas Lesage scored against Michael Silva, whereas Jesse Barcia and Helio Pereira did the same against Andrew Weber, the Impact goalkeeper on loan for the game.
The Lions, who were beaten three times in three games by the Attak, have a one-point lead on the Supra. The Attak won its first ever game against the Lions, 2-1 on May 20 in Toronto, and since then has beaten them twice in Trois-Rivières: 3-1 on June 24 and 3-0 last Saturday. Nicolas Lesage, the league's top goalscorer, tallied four of his twelve goals against the Lions, whereas Jean-Louis Bessé scored three of his four goals against them.
Because St. Catharines does not play this weekend, the Attak has the opportunity to close in on first place.
