A second shut-out for Cournoyer Attak too much for the Lions again
Nicolas Lesage, Jean-Louis Bessé and Darko Kolic found the back of the net, and the Trois-Rivières Attak defeated the Canadian Lions 3-0, Saturday afternoon at the UQTR stadium.
Trois-Rivières won its third straight game against the Lions, who finished the game with nine players after two sent-offs: Marko Janjicek in the first half and Nikola Miodrag in the second.
"I don't think they made it very difficult for us, and on top of that the two sending offs made our job a lot easier," said Olivier Brett. "It was an important game. We took our chances, did our job, and got the three points."
Both teams had several scoring opportunities and the Lions were denied by Vincent Cournoyer early in the first half when he dived to deflect the ball out of the net.
The Lions defence was solid until the 15-minute mark, when a corner taken by Danny Anderson was hit on the post twice, first by Elkana Mayard and then Nicolas Lesage.
At 22 minutes, Lesage made it 1-0 when he lobbed Gregory Drakes after a splendid pass from Olivier Brett. The Attak took a 2-0 lead four minutes before the break on a Jean-Louis Bessé goal. It was Lesage's fourth goal in three games against the Lions, and Bessé's third.
Three minutes into the second half, Cournoyer made another fabulous diving save. At 65 minutes, Darko Kolic, who replaced Lesage three minutes earlier, scored the Attak third goal.
With three goals behind and two men down, the game was out of reach for the visitors, and the Attak played a tenth league game without losing.
Following St. Catharines' 2-0 win at Windsor, the Attak is still five points behind the Wolves but has two games in hand.
Next week-end, the Attak will play two games on the road, Friday against the Portuguese Supra and Sunday against the Lions.
