The 2007 Open Canada Cup champions! Open Canada Cup: Attak champion!
The Trois-Rivières Attak won the Open Canada Cup, Monday, following a 3-0 victory over the ColumbusClan FC, at Cove Road stadium, London.
Nicolas Lesage and Danny Anderson, with two, found the back of the net in the second half to give the Trois-Rivières team its first title.
"I could have not hope for a better return from injury," said Anderson. "For sure it is pleasant to score in a Cup final, but what really matter is the win following the final whistle."
After a run on the wing at 54 minutes, Alpha Bah crossed the ball to Lesage, who headed it right on the post before jumping on the return to open the score.
At 75 and 81, Anderson scored two quick goals to secure the game for the Attak: first from an unstoppable shot from 18m, and then following a confusion in the opposition's penalty box.
Three minutes later, Jon Paul Piques, the Attak goalkeeper, was sent off after he had an argument with the referee. But with three goals behind and only a few minutes to play, the game was out of reach for the Clan.
"This is extraordinary, but we deserved it because we were the best team," said Marc Dos Santos. "I am so proud of my players, they played so well. We came here to win, and we have won. We will keep on the hard work as we also wish to win the championship…"
