Italia Shooters @ Attak
2007-08-16
The Attak on a mission
The Trois-Rivières Attak (6-3-5) will play the second of four straight home games against the Italia Shooters (9-2-3), this Saturday at 4pm at the UQTR Stadium (CHLN 550AM).
On June 10 in Toronto, two late second half goals from Jean-Louis Bessé and Elkana Mayard have permitted the Attak to come from behind and get a valuable 2-2 tie against the 2006 CSL champions. Camilo Benzi, the Shooters goalkeeper, was beaten for the first time after almost six games and over 530 minutes without conceding a goal.
The Toronto team, which is first in the international division, lost 1-0 against the Wolves, Wednesday in St. Catharines. Therefore, the Shooters will be more motivated to win on Saturday.
Trois-Rivières is also in first place in its division and is unbeaten in its last seven league games. Last Sunday in Trois-Rivières, the Attak won 5-4 over Windsor.
With the Serbian White Eagles and Toronto Croatia, the Italia Shooters and the Attak are probably the four best teams in the league, but Marc Dos Santos' men have yet to win against one of the top three teams thus far.
"We got three points in six games against the top three teams, but we always played big games against them," explained Dos Santos. "We did not lose against the Italia Shooters and Toronto Croatia, and our three losses against the Serbian White Eagles were all by one goal. The problem when we play against these teams is very simple: experience. Our team is very young. However, we are first in our division and we will play the semi-final of the Open Canada Cup, which is very good for a new team with so many young players. But the players are not satisfied, they want more and are ready to beat the Italia Shooters on Saturday…"
Five Impact players in the line-up
Guillaume Barrette and Jean-Louis Bessé, injured, will not be in the line-up for the game on Saturday. However, five Impact players will be available for Dos Santos: goalkeeper Jon Paul Piques, defender David Fronimadis, as well as forwards Sita-Taty Matondo, Frederico Moojen and Massimo Di Ioia.
The Attak active the whole weekend
The Attak players will take part in two major events in Mauricie, the Trois-Rivières Grand Prix and the Albatros Cup, Saturday from 10am to 11:30am. While some players will distribute invitations for the game against the Shooters at the car race, others will be at the Albatros Cup to sign autographs and animate a skillfulness workshop. In addition, the team will be at the Sports experts on des Récollets street in Trois-Rivières, Sunday from 1:30pm to 3:30pm, to sign autographs and play a game of street soccer.
