Alpha Bah just about to score his second goal of the season High scoring game in Trois-Rivières
Led by Darko Kolic and Nicolas Lesage, who scored two goals each, the Trois-Rivières Attak won a thrilling encounter, 5-4, over the Windsor Border Stars, Sunday afternoon in front of 1172 spectators at the UQTR Stadium.
Darko Kolic scored the first of seven goals in a spectacular first half with a top corner shot at the 8-minute mark (1-0), which was followed by an equalizer two minutes later when Gino Berardi defeated Vincent Cournoyer on a breakaway (1-1).
At 27 minutes, Dan Ferria, the Windsor goalkeeper, was also beaten on a breakaway by Alpha Bah (2-1), and a minute later Nicolas Lesage made it 3-1 with a lob over the keeper. The Attak top goalscorer added another one at 35 minutes (4-1), his eleventh of the season.
Kolic (40) and Berardi (44) both scored their second goal of the game in the last five minutes, and the home team was comfortably in front 5-2 at the break.
Comfortably… until the last two minutes of the game, during which Aaron Byrd (88) and Berardi (90), again, reduced the score to 5-4. A score that will last until the final whistle, the Attak winning a thrilling encounter for the fans, yet very frustrating for both coaches and players…
"It was probably our worst game of the season," said Marc Dos Santos. "We did not play well at all, scoring is not everything. The three points is the only positive aspect of the game. We will take them, but we have to change many things if we want to be a top team and win championships and Cups."
The Attak is still in first place in the national division with a six-point lead over St. Catharines. The league's top team, the Italia Shooters, will be the visitors next Saturday at the UQTR stadium.
