WINDSOR BORDER STARS @ ATTAK

2007-08-10

Prolonging the unbeaten streak

After two Cup games, the Attak (5-3-5) will resume its regular schedule when they face the Windsor Border Stars (4-6-2), on Sunday at 4pm at the UQTR stadium (CHLN 550AM).

The Attak's last league game was on July 22 in St. Catharines, which resulted in a scoreless draw. Marc Dos Santos' men did not lose a game since mid-June, a streak of six games - eight including the Cup games. The Mauricie team has five wins, three losses and five ties, and is still first in the national division.

The Border Stars, which are in third place with six points behind the Attak, have won only one of their last six games, and have recorded four wins, six losses and two ties in 12 games.

The game on Sunday will be the second of the season between the two teams. The Attak won 5-1 in Windsor on July 14. Nicolas Lesage recorded the team's first ever hat-trick, whereas Joe Di Buono, Alex Surprenant and Aaron Byrd, the Windsor star striker, also found the back of the net in this one-sided game. Lesage and Byrd are the top two goalscorers in the CSL thus far this season.

Surprenant: recalled by the Impact
"We easily won in Windsor, but we still can't take the Border Stars for granted," said Alex Surprenant, who has been recently recalled by the Impact. "They have some dangerous players that are quick and good to find the space behind the defenders. Therefore, we will need to be vigilant. If we can score an early goal, it would hurt them." While still playing with the Attak, the 17-year-old left defender will also train with the Impact, wishing to get his chance to play with the Montreal team.

Open Canada Cup: the Attak in the final four
The winner in Western Canada and the winner of the wild card game between the Italia Shooters and London City will join the Attak and Windsor in the final four of the Open Canada Cup, which will be played during the Labour Day weekend in London. Trois-Rivières qualified for the semi-finals after two decisive victories in the previous rounds, first 3-1 over Jean-Talon 2007 and then 6-0 against London City.
