Attak @ Toronto Croatia and St. Catharines Wolves

2007-07-20

Big weekend for the Attak

The Trois-Rivières Attak (5-3-3) will play two games on the road for a second straight weekend, first against Toronto Croatia (4-0-5), Friday at 8:30pm, and then against the St. Catharines Wolves (3-3-3), Sunday at 4pm.

Marc Dos Santos' men returned from last weekend games at London (tie, 2-2) and Windsor (win, 5-1) with four points. This weekend will be tougher but the team is confidant to do as well, even better.

"We are very motivated to play against Toronto Croatia, the only team still unbeaten this season," said Dos Santos. "We are going there to win. The game against St. Catharines will also be difficult. They have to win and they have the pressure to catch us. We know what we have to do. The group is strong mentally and ready to have another positive trip."

On May 13, in Trois-Rivières, the Attak played its first official game against Toronto Croatia. Reduced to ten men with over an hour to play, the team registered a valuable 0-0 draw against one of the league's top team. The Toronto team is now second in the international division and has yet to lose a game.

St. Catharines is standing in second place in the national division, with six points behind the Attak and two more games to play. Thus, the match-up is interesting and the teams know what is at stake. Moreover, the Wolves have not won a game since June 20, so they should be starving for victory.

Lassonde leaves, El Zayati arrives
Fabrice Lassonde has been released by the Attak, following a request from the player. He played in ten games, five as a starter, for a total of 556 minutes. Frenchman Imad El Zayati, a defender who played for Sannois Saint-Gratien in the French third division, joins the Attak. He will be available to play this weekend.

Lesage on top
Following his fantastic seven goals in the last four games, for a total of nine in 11 games, Nicolas Lesage is now the league's top goalscorer with Italia Shooters' Kadian Lecky. The Trois-Rivières forward, who aims at two wins this weekend, is positive about the Attak second half of the season. "Our group is getting better and better, and we will be hard to beat in the second half of the season. We have so much depth that I had to fight to be a starter. Although I was not scoring a lot in the first games, I was playing well. Now, my scoring run must continue…"
