Lesage scored three more goals Lesage and the Attak shine in Windsor
The Trois-Rivières Attak completed its trip in Southern Ontario with a convincing 5-1 win over the Border Stars, Saturday night in Windsor.
Nicolas Lesage scored three goals, for a total of nine this season. At 22 minutes, Joe Di Buono crossed the ball to Alex Surprenant at the edge of the penalty area, who passed it to Lesage, and the offensive festival was started for the Attak. Following a mistake in the Windsor defence, at 49 minutes, Jean-Louis Bessé lobed the ball to Lesage, and the former Sélect de Trois-Rivières striking force combined one more time to double the Attak lead. The Attak number 12 completed his hat-trick at 78 minutes following a combination of passes involving François Boivin, Surprenant and Fabrice Lassonde. Lesage was named the Attak player of the game.
"Nicolas is a dangerous player around the goal area and the players serve him very well, and he scores a lot of goals at the moment," Marc Dos Santos said. "He works hard and well, he deserves it."
The other goalscorers were Joe Di Buono (23), his first of the season, and Alex Surprenant (52), who scored his second goal of the week-end. Di Buono made it 2-0 following a magnificent 40 m slalom run from Bessé, whereas Surprenant scored from a 20 m free kick.
The local team only goal came at the 74-minute mark when the referee awarded a penalty kick after Elkana Mayard made a foul in the penalty box. Aaron Byrd defeated Vincent Cournoyer, who was replaced by Lorenzo Borella ten minutes later. With a four-goal lead and a few minutes to play, Dos Santos switched the goalkeepers to allow Borella to play.
Guillaume Barrette, who suffered an ankle injury on Friday against London City, and Darko Kolic, suspended following his ejection in the same game, did not take part in the game.
"After the 2-2 result against London, on Friday, we had a meeting and the players responded very well today," said a much happier Dos Santos. "They showed their mental strength. Coming back with four points from two road games is good, but we know we should have two more…"
Trois-Rivières will return to Ontario next week-end to challenge Toronto Croatia, on Friday, and the St. Catharines Wolves, on Sunday.
