Attak @ London City and Windsor Border Stars
2007-07-12
Objective: two wins
The Trois-Rivières Attak (4-3-2) will travel to Ontario to play its next two games, first against London (2-5-1), Friday at 8:30pm, and then against Windsor (3-5-1), Saturday at 7pm.
The two games will be played in less than 24 hours, and although the Border Stars, the opponent on Saturday, do not play on Friday, the Trois-Rivières team wants to return from Ontario with six points.
"These next two games within 24 hours are of a crucial importance and will be very difficult," said the Attak head coach Marc Dos Santos. "We must respect the opponents and play these two games like if they were the last ones in our lives. Coming back from this trip with six points would be a great achievement. I believe that we will respect our opponents, give everything we have, and come back with two wins."
The Attak won its last two games, 3-1 against the Canadian Lions, on June 24, and 2-1 against the North York Astros, on July 7. During these two home games, Nicolas Lesage scored three goals, for a total of five thus far this season. The team has a record of four wins, three losses and two ties in nine games, and is first in the national division.
Winless in its first five games, London City, last in the national division, won two of its last three games, and has recorded two wins, five defeats and a tie.
The Windsor Border Stars have not won since June 9, a sequence of three games. They are ahead of London by three points, having played and won one more game than their Southern Ontario rival.
"These two games in two days will be tough physically," said Guillaume Barrette, the solid left midfielder who is not scared of facing any kind of opponent. In the first game against London, we will have to stay focus and not be over confidant because this team is last in our division. However, if we can secure the win early in the game, we will be able to save some energy for Saturday. If not, the game against Windsor will be very tough."
Argento called by the Impact
Gerry Argento will not travel to Ontario with the Attak since he has been called by the Impact, following the injury to Matt Jordan last Sunday during the game against the Carolina RailHawks played in Sherbrooke. Argento will be the back-up goalkeeper against the RailHawks, Friday night in Carolina. "The choice of the goalkeeper between Gerry Argento and Vincent Cournoyer is simply based on the fact that Gerry knows the system of play of the Impact better than Vincent," explained Marc Dos Santos. "Vincent is playing very well, and as he will get more experience, I am convinced that he will eventually get his chance with the Impact."
First match-up against a Quebec team
The Attak will face Jean Talon 2007 in the second round of the Open Canada Cup, on Friday July 27, at 9pm, at the Claude-Robillard Sports Complex. This will be the Attak first ever official match-up against a Quebec team.
