Lesage scored two goals in the first half Une belle fête à l'UQTR
The sun, the warm weather, the fans and a win: the setting was perfect on the Fête nationale at the UQTR stadium. The Trois-Rivières Attak won 3-1 over the Canadian Lions, in front of a record crowd of nearly 1300 spectators.
The crowd was delighted when Nicolas Lesage scored two early goals on breakaways, following two beautiful passes from Guillaume Barrette and Alex Surprenant at the 13 and 20 minutes of play, respectively.
The Lions also got a breakaway, but Vincent Cournoyer had the edge over Evan Milward. The Attak played with intensity and controlled the remaining of the half, and was comfortably in front 2-0 at the break.
Marko Janjicek reduced the score when he lobbed Cournoyer at the 64th minute. Three minutes later, the Lions goalscorer received a yellow card and the Lions coach Goran Miscevic, who was very furious and upset, was sent-off.
Jean-Louis Bessé made it 3-1 when he scored his third goal of the season at the 76 minute. The Attak had several other scoring opportunities, including a shot from Alex Surprenant two minutes after the Attak third goal.
Nicolas Lesage had the best possible answer to the pressure he put on himself last week. "I have to thank Guillaume (Barrette) and Alex (Surprenant) for their magnificent passes, which resulted in two breakaway goals. Scoring goals is always good for a striker."
Laurence Labonté, the assistant coach who was in charge today, was pleased with the result. "We did many good things offensively and the team chemistry is getting better, which is good. We will keep on working on these aspects during our training sessions this week."
With the win, the Attak is back in first place of the National division, but the St. Catharines Wolves have three games in hands. The Attak next game will be on Saturday, July 7, against the North York Astros at 8pm at the UQTR stadium.
