2007-05-10
Opening match as a Mother's Day gift
A few days before its first home game, the Trois-Rivières Attak has signed Darko Kolic and Joe Di Buono.
Forward Darko Kolic, 35, arrives in Trois-Rivières with a vast professional experience. He was playing for the Montreal Impact since 1997, with stints in Richmond in 1998 and Long Island in 1999, but his contract was not renewed this season. This deal will permit him to continue his career within the Impact club structure, which pleases him. "I am happy to have the opportunity to play with the Attak and to continue doing what I love: playing soccer. I am also pleased to stay within the Impact organization, which will give me the opportunity to help develop younger players. The team is young and talented, I am very confident that we will do well this season." Before arriving in Montreal, Kolic started his professional career in 1992 in Ex-Yougoslavia.
Midfielder Joe Di Buono, 26, was drafted by the Impact in 2005 after his NCAA division 1 career with Robert Morris University, but he did not make the Impact line-up. He has played with Polish first division club Polonia Warsaw. "The arrival of the Attak, the reserve team of the Impact, is excellent. It will allow the players like me to further develop within the Impact club structure. I hope to help the team to perform well, with the wish to have my chance with the Impact."
"I am very happy that we have signed these two players, they add depth to the team. Darko is very experienced and he will be a good model for our young players. In addition, his professionalism will help the unity of the group. Joe will work hard, he still has the hope to be called by the Impact, like any player in the team", said the Attak head-coach Marc Dos Santos.
Impact players Di Ioia, Aaboubou and Moran will play on Sunday
Massimo Di Ioia, Hicham Aaboubou and Paul Moran will be in the Attak line-up for the home opener, Sunday may 13 at 4pm at UQTR stadium against TorontoCroatia. This shows the mission of the Attak, which is to help the development of the Impact players.
