Attak 1 Lions 1
Vaughan, July 20, 2008 - The Trois-Rivières Attak's (8-1-4) trip ended with a tie game against the Brampton Lions (4-4-4) in Vaughan. Trois-Rivières remains undefeated in its last 12 games. Marc Dos Santos' team took the lead in the first half with a Nicolas Lesage goal, only to see Brampton rally in the second half and tie the game at the 80th minute.
The first half was hotly contested. Both teams had their chances to score, but it's only at the 45th minute that Lesage beat Lions goalie Adrian Ibanez with a shot from 40 feet out. The second half was fought just as closely, and the Lions managed to score toward the end of it with a goal by Orlin Chambers. The Lions forward went on breakaway and got the ball past Trois-Rivières netminder Andrew Olivieri, who had no chance on the play. Despite putting constant pressure on their opponents at the end of the game, the Attak wasn't able to add a second goal and thus came back from Brampton with one point.
For Head Coach Dos Santos, the team put up a strong effort. "I'm very proud of my players. The trip was hard on us, and Brampton hadn't played Friday like we had - and we still managed to draw a tie." The Trois-Rivières coach adds that the most important thing was to not lose the game. For a 12th straight game, the Attak walks away unbeaten.
For midfielder Jean-Philippe Étienne, the team's peformance was praise-worthy. "We got 3 more points out of the weekend than Brampton did. We would have liked to win, but the result is very positive given the travel and the harsh weather conditions." Étienne looks ahead to the coming month with confidence. "We'll get to play 7 of our last 9 games at home. We're more solid and united than ever," he adds.
The Attak will benefit from a two-week rest before hosting the Toronto Croatia at the Université du Québec à Trois-Rivières stadium on August 9th. In the meantime, the Attak will play the Montreal Impact at Chauveau Park in Québec City on August 2nd.
Here's the lineup for the game against Brampton:
Andrew Olivieri; Olivier Brett, Elkana Mayard, Alex Surprenant, Francois Boivin; Jean-Philippe Étienne; Christian Nunez (Mohamed Sylla 68th), Davy Uwinama; Jean-Louis Bessé (Guillaume Heroux 58ème), Nicolas Lesage (Alpha Bah 75th), Pierre-Rudoph Mayard (Massimo Di Ioia 61st).
