Attak going for a 6th straight win
Toronto July 18, 2008 - The Trois-Rivières Attak won 1-0 tonight over The FC Portual (4-2-2) at Lamport Stadium, in Toronto. The Attak (8-1-3) still leads the league standings with a total of 27 points. A goal by Massimo Di Ioia at the 81st minute allowed the Attak to extend its winning streak to 6 games.
The first half gave way to conservative playstyles from both sides. The only real scoring opportuinity came when a blast by Nicolas Lesage was denied by Portual goalie Mike Silva. The second half was the opposite - the play was open and scoring chances came one after the other. After several tries, it's Di Ioia's shot, which left no chance to the Portugese netminder, that made the difference at the 81st minute. Trois-Rivières thus won a sixth straight contest, this time by the final score of 1-0.
For Head Coach Dos Santos, this is a hard-fought victory on the road. "A team always wants to be win under any circumstance," he says. For player Elkana Maynard, the recent success enjoyed by the team are a direct result of the preparation leading up to each game. "The atmosphere is very good in the room. We take every game one at the time, and we display real professionalism in our preparation," he observes. The next game for the Attak is Sunday July 20 at 2:30 PM against the Brampton Lions.
