Two games for the Attak this weekend
2008-07-16
Friday at Portugal FC, Sunday at Brampton
Trois-Rivières, July 16, 2008 - The Trois-Rivières Attak FC (7-1-3, 24 points) will meet the Toronto Portugal FC (4-3-2, 14 points) on Friday before facing the Brampton Lions (4-4-3, 15 points) on Sunday. It is the first matchup against either team this season. The Trois-Rivières Attak is currently atop the league standings with a total of 24 points.
Friday's game should be a defensive showdown against two teams known for allowing few goals. For Head Coach Marc Dos Santos, it represents a new challenge, as the Portugal FC can be expected to put all their efforts into defeating the division's top team. "It's up to our players to come out strong this weekend", he says.
Asked about the team's progress at midpoint in the regular season, Dos Santos does not hesitate: "Our objective was to finish first in our division, and we're on our way to doing that. We shouldn't be surprised by the results we've been able to achieve so far. We have to keep giving it our all every game from now on if we are to come out on top of our division. Friday's game is a very important step toward achieving that objective."
The Brampton Lions currently occupy the division's second spot, trailing the Attak by 9 points. A Brampton win would close the gap to 6. The Attak will have to keep an eye out for Daniel Nascimento, who leads the league with 11 goals.
The game versus the Portual FC is scheduled for this Friday at 8 pm. The one against the Brampton Lions kicks off Sunday at 2:30 pm.
